Queensland Short Breaks and Holidays

Residents and guests were excited to welcome the Queen’s Baton to Hamilton Island as part of its relay to the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in March. Coming from Shute Harbour and via Whitehaven Beach, the Baton arrived by Fantasea ferry on the island on Friday 3 February and was carried by local residents and Australian swimming great Hayley Lewis. Guests holidaying on the island said that it was fantastic to see the baton and to know they were part of history in the making.
